Types of Carpet PowerHeads:

Air powered vacuum brushes channel the suction and air flow of a vacuum through a small tube in the brush. The turbine is responsible for spinning the brush in the head & the turbine duct is the only inlet for air in the brush, so all vacuumed particles pass through the turbine. The suction of the vacuum (different from the air flow) determines how much friction the brush can withstand before it freezes. So, vacuum units with low suction (Water Lift) may not be strong enough for an Air Powered brush head. Consequently, if the air powered brush starts spinning slower for an unknown reason, it most likely means your Dirt canister is too full, you vacuum bag is full or the moving parts such a roller, bearing ect. are packed with hair or dirt which prevent easy movement and resistance to the moving parts.

Air driven brushes do a good job on hard floor and short carpers and they also do a good job at picking up dirt and small particles on these surfaces, however, watch out for medium to large sized debris, because air powered turbines are easy to clog. They are not as aggressive as the electric powerheads but do a decent job cleaning and they are available in few different sizes.

Electric Powerheads are much more aggressive, combing the carpet fibers, and agitating the dust and debris out of the carpet. The electric powerheads also have no restriction in the airflow, as they do not require a turbine to drive the brush roller. They also give all around the better cleaning performance, and are much quieter in operation. An electrically powered vacuum brush head has a motor that spins the brush, aiding the function of the vacuum by digging into the carpet with enough force to lift dirt from the base of the carpet. Some electric brush heads have brush roller height adjustment setting (low & high) making them extremely versatile and great for any type or style of carpet or rug you might have in your home.

Most important part to know when choosing right powerhead is that you need to match it to your cleaning needs as well as type of surface it will be used on.

Testimonial

  • "Fantastic service. I tried to install a central vacuum myself, but realized that I needed help. The owner came to my house the day after I contacted them. Installed everything quickly. Spent time with me after showing me how to use the different parts, and how to avoid breaking them. I would definitely recommend them to anyone." - Leslie
